Puppies!

Last week we got "suckered" into helping with another Pilots and Paws case. Nine Lab/Golden mix puppies and one adult dog, Starbuck, stayed the night with us last Tuesday before their flight the following morning to Colorado. There, they will be fostered until they find their "forever home." Poor Starbuck was found abandoned in December and needed surgery for a severe injury to his back leg. He is just the sweetest guy, but requires physical therapy to ensure his leg will continue to heal properly and regain function. Arkansas is a 'high kill' state and it is hard to adopt out dogs like Starbuck that need extra help. 

We were really quite happy to help! It was pretty hilarious to watch as we tried to juggle feeding, watering and letting them out to potty. Since they all look exactly the same, we had to rotate them in shifts of three to ensure they all had eaten and pooped. Thankfully, Omar's friend Amy (who roped us into this whole adventure) stayed with us and made it manageable. But let me tell you, the whining as they got separated for their shifts could have been heard the next town over. It was intense.  

To say the girls were thrilled when they woke up to nine puppies is a weee bit of an understatement. 

There are sooo many things I love about this video...

The more I watch this video, the funnier and sweeter it gets....puppies everywhere and always moving, Sadie's fruitless efforts to snag a puppy while Norah silently picks up puppy after puppy after puppy, Omar's quick "Uh Oh" when he realizes that Norah is about to drop one but knows he doesn't have enough time to do anything about it, Sadie's observation that there is yet more poo... 

Love it!

They enjoyed the morning with the pups and went with us to load them up on the plane. From the puppies, to the plane, to the goodbye...the whole experience was just so great and we were thrilled the girls got to be a part of it. 

We watched the plane take off and the girls thought it was amazing...for about a second. Then the reality that the puppies and Starbuck were gone sunk in and they were pretty distraught. I was rather surprised at just how sad they were. Daddy had to give them lots of love and had to hold Sadie's hand the whole drive home.
